Carnegie Wylie & Company (CWC) is delighted to announce the appointment of two of Australia’s leading corporate advisors to its investment banking business.
Peter Hay, currently National Chief Executive Officer of Freehills, will become Chairman of CWC’s Investment Banking Group.
Peter, who will be based in Melbourne, is widely respected as one of Australia’s leading legal practitioners. He is recognised for his expertise in company law, notably public company takeovers, and his wide-ranging commercial acumen.
Peter has been CEO of Freehills since 2000, and before that was Chairman of the Melbourne partnership from 1994. He joined Freehills in 1974 and became a partner in 1977. Under Peter’s leadership, Freehills has become nationally integrated and has established a clear market leadership position in Australian legal services.
Peter is a director of Pacifica Group Ltd and Alumina Ltd, and has held a number of other directorships in the corporate and not-for-profit sectors.
Jeremy Mead, currently a Managing Director and Co-Head of Mergers & Acquisitions for Australia at Goldman Sachs JB Were, will join as Head of Investment Banking in Sydney.
Jeremy has more than 20 years of investment banking experience in Europe, Asia and Australia.
Before joining Goldman Sachs JB Were in Australia, Jeremy was Head of Corporate Finance and M&A in Non-Japan Asia for Credit Suisse First Boston, based in Hong Kong. In the UK, he has held senior positions for CSFB and Barclays de Zoete Wedd.
Peter and Jeremy will become equity partners in CWC.
In announcing the appointments, CWC co-founder John Wylie said he looked forward to introducing both Peter and Jeremy to CWC’s clients.
“These recruitments are blue-chip appointments for a blue-chip client base. Peter and Jeremy bring an important extra dimension to our firm and reflect the rapid growth of CWC’s investment banking business,” Mr Wylie said.
CWC’s investment banking clients include the Commonwealth Government, Telstra, BHP Billiton, Coles Myer, Qantas, Newcrest Mining, Lend Lease, Toll Holdings, Sigma Company and Pacific Hydro.
